Exe Estuary Trail Repairs

Devon County Council’s website has a feature on the delay to the Exe Trail repairs. Exe Estuary Trail repairs to be completed in new year – News (devon.gov.uk)

1) When was the order for the required materials placed?

Devon County Council’s principal contractor placed their order with the supplier on 15 May 2023.

2) When was the delay in production and delivery of the materials known about?

7 October 2023

3) Councillor Hughes states that the contractors are working longer days to catch up – what are their working hours now? What were they before? For how long will the contractors work the longer hours stated?

The worker’s hours on site each day vary based on travel, weather conditions and tidal levels. However, on a typical day, workers installing the new boardwalk have been on site from sunrise to sunset since the required materials have been delivered. This will continue until all the GRP (Glass Reinforced Polyester) elements are installed. Before this, it was standard working hours (approximately 8am to 4pm) while the preparation work was completed to allow the installation of the new boardwalk.

4) What will be the impact on cost of the longer hours worked and the delays to the project delivery?

The cost of working longer days sits with the contractor and no additional costs have been passed to the County Council. At this time, the County Council has not received any notification from the contractor for additional costs for the delay

5) Councillor Scott states that the route will reopen in the new year. This is very vague. When will it reopen in the New Year?

The boardwalk is expected to be open on the 26 January 2024 but this is subject to the delivery of the last of the materials and weather conditions.
