Many Elf Bars have recently been removed from retailers as they were found to contain almost double the legal nicotine limits for the UK. A spokesperson for the Department of Health and Social Care, in light of this, has said that ‘local enforcement agencies’ are responsible for the regulation of such products and have a duty of ‘taking action’ against non-compliant products including products that ‘do not comply’ with the 2ml nicotine limits.
What measures do you have in place to ensure that you are enforcing these checks and making sure regulations are being followed?
Trading Standards Officers are made aware of intelligence relating to potential illegal products by formal tactical assessments and informal briefings. No specific exercises have been conducted on these products but routine inspections are conducted.
Do you have enough resources to be able to regulate and take action against non-compliant products?
