Council Electricity Tariffs and Renewable Electricity Generation

Please supply me with information relating to the following questions:
1. Does the council have a 100% renewable green electricity tariff for all of the electricity that the council is directly responsible for, and is this tariff with Green Energy UK plc, Good Energy Limited or Ecotricity?

No

2. Does the council generate and use energy from waste? And if so, what percentage of the council’s total electricity use is powered by this/these energy from waste electricity sources?

The council does not directly generate energy from waste. The energy from waste facilities in Devon are operated by third parties.  The electricity generated is not used by the council – it is sold into the grid to contribute to the carbon intensity of grid electricity.

3. Does the council buy directly from a local renewable electricity source or have its own renewable electricity sources? And if so, what percentage of the council’s total electricity use is powered by this/these renewable electricity sources?

Yes, we buy from a local community energy company (Exeter Community Energy) as well as having our own installations. These installations generated 1.7% of the authority’s electricity consumption, including that of street lighting and maintained schools.
