In the last financial year 2020/2021 please provide me with the number of settlements and the total amount paid as compensation to teachers or teaching assistants for injuries sustained at schools or outside schools. For each incident please provide me with the amount of compensation, costs and a summary of the claim.
Please clearly indicate any incidents where compensation was made to staff as a result of an injury sustained from an attack by a pupil, or in an incident when trying to restrain a violent pupil.
Note: The question relates to payments made in 2020/2021 regardless of when the incident took place. If the settlement was made by the authority’s insurers it is still information “held” by your authority under the terms of the Act.
In the financial year 2020/2021 three payments were made totalling £415,862.50 and costs totalling £177,000. Two of these claims involved injuries caused by a pupil.
Any further breakdown of the individual claims or a summary of each claim, would risk identifying the claimants and disclosing their personal information. This would be a breach of the first data protection principle and this further information is therefore exempt from disclosure pursuant to s.40(2) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
