I would like to submit a Freedom of Information request on the following: Has your cloud computing usage increased, decreased or stayed the same in the last five years? Increased Is environmental sustainability more important to your organisation than it was five years ago? Enabling sustainable communities is at the heart of a local authority’s activities. The authority uses an Impact Toolkit to consider the implications of decisions and projects on social, economic and environmental sustainability. With regard to environmental sustainability, Devon County Council has been implementing a programme of improvements for over 20 years. This programme includes action on waste, single-use plastics, energy, carbon emissions, procurement activity, water and behavioural change. During this time, environment has featured in the authority’s strategic plans, which set the priorities for the organisation. In the past five years, the climate and ecological emergencies have received more attention within the programme. What (if any) are the barriers to your organisation being more sustainable (e.g. cost, clean energy provision, knowledge and skills)? The most significant barriers are technology-readiness (e.g. being a rural county our vehicle fleet can travel long distances which makes the current readiness-level of electric vehicles inappropriate for some of our operations) and investment-readiness (e.g. retrofitting a building with energy efficiency and renewable energy equipment is considerable in comparison to the revenue savings available from reduced energy bills).
