Child protection proceedings

1. As of 1st December 2024, does your local authority collect data on how many women aged between 16-25 years old in your local authority are subjected to child protection proceedings during and or after their pregnancy?

Yes

2. If ‘Yes’ to question 1, how many women aged between 16-25 years old in your local authority were subjected to child protection proceedings during and or after their pregnancy during the financial year 2023-24?

3. Please breakdown the figures provided in Question 2 for the 16-25-year-old women into the outcome of child protection case:

· It was decided that the child was to be removed from the birth mother’s care = 24
· It was decided that the child was not to be removed from the birth mother’s care = 40

Disclosure of the further details of the remaining matters would potentially identify the individuals concerned given the low numbers.  Identification of individuals would be a breach of the first data protection principle and this information is therefore exempt from disclosure pursuant to section 40(2) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

4. As of 1st December 2024, does your local authority collect data on how many care-experienced women (e.g. a young woman who as a child was in the care of a local authority for more than 24 hours) aged between 16-25 years old are subjected to child protection proceedings during or after their pregnancy?

Yes

5. If ‘Yes’ to question 4, how many care-experienced women aged between 16-25 years old in your local authority were subjected to child protection proceedings during and or after their pregnancy during the
financial year 2023-24?

· It was decided that the child was to be removed from the birth mother’s care = 5
· It was decided that the child was not to be removed from the birth mother’s care = 7
