Devon County Council record human injury collisions on the public highway and report these to Devon & Cornwall Police. We do not record the number of human injury collisions involving deer in the data recording structure but infer the instances by searching for “deer” in the free text description that comes from the Police officer’s account of what happened. Please see map of collisions provided reflecting this data for the last 10 years for which data is held (2009 to 2018). We have found eight records of injury collisions in the Haldon Hill vicinity involving deer. Just to confirm, the road collision dataset we use is Stats19 data, which is human injury collisions on the public highway reported to/recorded by the Police, the collection of which is governed by the Department for Transport. Data Frequently Asked Questions.
The dates of the collisions are included on the map, as well as the injury severity of the collision (based on the persons injuries).
Also, you may find it useful to review ‘Project Splatter’, which is a citizen science project founded by Cardiff University which records wildlife roadkill by inviting the general public to report animal strikes on the road.
In addition, Dartmoor National Park may well have records of incidents that weren’t reported to the Police.
