Devon Young Carers is the provider commissioned by Devon County Council to support Young Carers. They provide 24 trips or activities over the year across the county. They are split into 4 localities – North Devon, Mid and East Devon, Exeter, and South Devon. Each area runs 6 activities, which are in the school holidays.
Each locality works in partnerships with other organisations and groups to enhance the trips, activities, and residential trips Devon Young Carers provide, with some partners contributing funding towards these opportunities for our Young Carers.
Devon Young Carers fundraise to take a group of Young Carers to the Young Carers Festival each year.
Devon Young Carers also monitor events and activities that may be open to young carers and identify these to young carers who may be interested
In addition to this Young Carers may access activities organised by their schools or by voluntary organisations in the area without using local authority funding. We do not have a record of how many of these clubs or activities have taken place. Devon Young Carers provides support and guidance for local set up of Young Carers groups.
4. Is there any additional provision in your area for Young Carers over school holidays – and if so, what? How much of this is fully or partially funded by the council?
Young Carers are also included in the extended criteria to access the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) scheme activities that run in Devon. This means that if these activities are not fully subscribed with children receiving benefit-related free school meals then young carers can access them.
