Please provide the following information:
1. Details of the help you expect local schools to provide for children with special educational needs/disability. In particular, ADHD, Autism (with PDA profile), significant sensory processing issues as well as characteristics of Developmental Coordination Disorder, toileting issues, and Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder.
The level of support/help for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) will vary based on individual needs and available resources. Schools are encouraged to collaborate with parents and external agencies to develop individual support plans.
Where children do have SEND, schools are expected to follow a graduated response to identifying individual needs. The associated Assess, Plan, Do, Review (APDR) process, will identify where additional assessment/screening would be beneficial and which supporting strategies would be best to meet needs. The review process would also identify if needs are being supported, and/or if professionals across agencies, can be accessed to support assessment/screening, implementation of supporting strategies or professional development for practitioners
Furthermore, Devon’s Ordinarily Available Inclusive Provision framework is under development and will be published later this term. This framework sets out expectations for all mainstream schools and settings on the provision that should be “ordinarily available” for all children and young people, including those with additional or special educational needs. This framework has been developed in partnership with schools, parents and young people.
With regard to toileting issues, we have provided a link on our website to a Model Intimate Care Policy. We would also signpost to ERIC website and also information about the Bladder and Bowel Team.
If you require further details related to local schools, you may wish to look on the school’s website for the SEN Information Report or contact them directly.
2. The amount of money you delegate to local mainstream schools for children with SEN but without EHC plans.
The funding to mainstream schools for SEN children without EHCPs forms part of the overall funding given to schools through the National Funding Formula. A notional SEN value (Element 2) is given to support children with SEND who require support which is different from and additional to children without SEND. Government guidance says schools should provide up to £6,000 of extra or different support for those children who need it. This is given as a guide only. The schools can choose how they allocate their funding across their individual school.
3. Details of the criteria you use to decide when to issue an EHC plan for children with the special educational needs/disabilities.
