1) How is the feedback to the consultation of the Active Streets Trial being used?
The feedback to the consultation is being used as part of a statutory consultation relating to the Experimental Traffic Regulation Orders (ETROs) associated with the trial. Through this consultation, feedback is being considered and changes can be implemented where necessary; for instance, an amendment was made to allow taxis to use the bus gates. Within 18 months of initial implementation, a decision will need to be made on whether to make the changes permanent or not. This decision will be based on formal representations about the ETROs, as well as feedback from the wider community, stakeholder engagement and data from pedestrian, cycle and traffic counts.
2) Is the feedback spilt into those for and those against the scheme?
The project team are currently undertaking analysis of the feedback and will be trying to understand the level of support and opposition for the Trial. The statutory consultation for the ETROs includes an online form which asks respondents to provide comments on five individual elements; Hamlin Lane traffic filter, Ladysmith Road / Park Road Bus Gate and waiting restrictions, St Marks Avenue traffic filter, Vaughan Road traffic filter and Whipton Lane bus gate. Respondents are asked to indicate whether they support or oppose each of these.
3) If the feedback shows more people are against the trial than are for it, will the scheme be scrapped and, if not, why not?
The decision regarding the trial’s future will be made by Exeter Highways and Traffic Orders Committee. Information will be provided to the Committee, including the level of support, as well as feedback from the wider community, stakeholder engagement and data from pedestrian, cycle and traffic counts.
