1. When the pothole on B3165 between Yawl and Uplyme was reported on 6th December 2023, was the defect reported as urgent?
No. The report was received via the Council website. It would have followed the usual processes for inspections in terms of timescales, unless someone actively called the Council to advise it needed to be dealt with urgently.
2. What communications were there between Devon County Council and Councillor Dave Turner in relation to the defect between 6th and 8th December 2023?
The Council has been unable to locate any information in relation to “Councillor Dave Turner”, but have found information involving Councillor Andy Turner. The Council received an email on 7th December and a text message on 8th December, both from Councillor Turner. Both of these were in relation to the pothole.
3. How many reports did the authority receive online between 6 and 8 December 2023?
Eight.
4. It was marked for safety by 10am on 8 December 2023. Was this marking done at the request of and/or organised by Devon County Council?
Defect D233814116 was attended by an inspector on the 8th December at approximately 10:27hrs. This was a formal monthly inspection of the road, during which time inspectors may also pick up and assess publicly reported defects.
5. Why was the defect classed as category 2?
The Council’s approach to highway safety inspections, including the risk-based approach inspectors utilise, and subsequent response times for repair, can be found in our Highway Safety Policy. The same process applies to triage assessment, when responding to publicly reported potholes.
6. When was the next regular inspection of this road scheduled for?
A monthly driven safety inspection of this road was undertaken on 7th November 2023. The subsequent inspection, which actually took place on 8th December 2023, was required to be carried out one month after this date, with an available tolerance of 10 working days, as per our Highway Safety Policy. Subsequent to this, the next formal monthly inspection took place on 5th January 2024.
