1. Why are you forcing Emergency Services to go a longer way?

2. Why are you forcing Ambulances to walk/run on foot to an emergency?

3. Why are you risking humans health by blocking roads?

4. Why are you risking, that Ambulances Police and Fire departments might not be able to save a person, just because you put the barriers in place?

In response to questions 1-4, Devon County Council have engaged with the emergency services, as detailed in the report to the 20 June 2023 Exeter Highways and Traffic Orders Committee (HATOC) meeting:  Active Streets Heavitree and Whipton Trial Scheme – Final.pdf (devon.gov.uk) This report also details the rationale for implementing the trial scheme.

Engagement with the emergency services has been continuing during the trial period, as detailed in the report to the 30 October 2023 Exeter HATOC meeting: : Active Streets Heavitree and Whipton Trial Scheme Update.pdf (devon.gov.uk) This has included providing details of the modal filters locations, to help them respond to any incidents within the scheme area.

Vehicles being used in an emergency for fire, police or ambulance purposes are exempt from the bus gate restrictions. All properties within the scheme area remain accessible by vehicle.
