BBQs in public spaces

1. Does your authority have responsibility for setting the local regulations regarding whether people can BBQ in a public space?

Yes, Devon County Council has responsibility for land owned by the Council and for some privately owned land subject to leases and licences.

Public spaces which are the responsibility of district and unitary councils will have their own rules.

2. Is BBQ cooking permitted in ALL local authority public spaces WITHOUT a permit or prior authorisation?

No. The expectation is that consent should be sought.

3. If not, is BBQ cooking permitted in ANY local authority public spaces WITHOUT a permit or prior authorisation?

Devon County Council has no regulations in place for BBQs on public highway land, however, as explained in response to question 2, the expectation is that consent is sought.

In the interests of providing advice and assistance we can confirm that byelaws restrict the lighting of fires at Grand Western Canal Country Park
