1. All documents related to where to plant trees?
Devon County Council publishes information about its tree planting activity on the following web page: Trees, hedges and woodland – Environment (devon.gov.uk)
Under the ‘How many trees does Devon County Council plant’ tab there are two tables. Table 1 lists the sites where tree planting funded or supported by Devon County Council has been undertaken on land owned by others. Table 2 lists tree planting projects undertaken directly by the Authority on its own land.
This web page also provides guidance for others on establishing new trees and hedges, with details and links found under the relevant tab. This refers to comprehensive guidance published on the Devon Local Nature Partnership web site on where to plant trees; this work was facilitated by Devon County Council. See: Right Place Right Tree – Devon Local Nature Partnership (devonlnp.org.uk)
2. Long term management plans for planted trees?
Devon County Council has not produced long term management plans for planted trees. Short-term maintenance and aftercare plans (lasting between three and five years) are incorporated into the contractual arrangements for planting sites in the County Council’s ownership / control, or for planting that it directly arranges for land in the ownership of others.
Links to general guidance on establishing and caring for trees and hedges are provided via the County Council web page referenced above.
3. Survival rates of planted trees?
Devon County Council does not hold a listing of the respective survival rates for the tree planting locations documented via its web page referenced above. Instead, the short-term maintenance and aftercare plans mentioned in response to Question 2 will define an expected survival rate through the relevant contractual arrangements. Monitoring compliance with this requirement is undertaken so that remedial action is applied to address any failure to achieve the specified survival rate.
