Unaccompanied Asylym Seeking Children

“Under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act, please can you tell me how many of the looked after child asylum seekers that were in the Council’s care on 30th November 2019 had at some point previously spent time on the main adult asylum seeker scheme?

If you are able to, please break the number down into:

a) Those who have now been accepted as children

b) Those who have claimed to be children and are being treated as children while their claim to be a child is assessed.”

Devon County Council had 23 Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC) who were looked after as at 30 November 2019.

We do not hold information about whether these children also spent time in the main adult asylum seeker scheme.  Age assessments for UASC that entered care before 2019 were not recorded on the Council’s then care management system (CareFirst).

Since January 2019, we can confirm that 11 UASC have entered care.  11 UASC fall under a) (now accepted as children) and none fall under b).
