Sum for allocation of shared school services

We have an information request -see below

1. The “top slice” figure applied by Devon County Council for all maintained primary school in Devon with 200 pupils or less on the roll for this academic year 2017-18.
2. The ” top slice” figure applied by Devon County Council for all maintained primary schools in Devon with 200 pupils or less on the roll for the last academic year 2016-2017.

The “topslice” is the figure that is taken by the local authority in maintained schools from the allocated sum set by National Government (and differs in different areas) for each individual pupil.
For example if there is an allocation for each child in a Devon primary school to have £400, Devon County Council could take £175 out of this budget. This would then go to a central pot for the allocation of shared services.

Devon County Council does not apply a “top slice” figure to maintained primary schools.

We have interpreted your request to include historic commitments and de-delegated services.

With respect to historic commitments, please refer to the table below:

 2016/17           2017/18
Historic Commitments £3,784,000     £3,518,000
Number of Pupils 88,065              89,340
Rate per pupil £42.56              £39.38

De-delegated funds, which are not a “top slice”, are agreed by Schools Forum on an annual basis. Individual schools data including the funding rates can be found on the School Webpages within the schools budget calculators tab “de-delegation”:
