Special Guardianship Order Numbers and Adoption Medicals

1. How many Special Guardianship Orders (SGOs) of Devon children have been granted in the past 5 years?

For the years that Devon County Council (DCC) has been formally capturing information as part of the Adoption and Special Guardianship Leadership Board:-

Year Number of SGOs Child in Care
2016/17 32 Yes
  11 No
2017/18 30 Yes
  25 No
2018/19 31 Yes
  23 No

2. Of those, how many children had had adoption medicals?

DCC does not currently request an adoption medical for the children of Special Guardianship Order (SGO) carers.  If the child has previously had a plan for adoption, then they may have had one.

All children in care will have had an initial health assessment and subsequent review health assessments.  In instances where the child was living with the foster carer who then became the Special Guardian, then they would be aware of this and any health plans that were required.

3. Of those who had an adoption medical, what percentage of special guardians were shown that medical before the granting of the Special Guardianship Order?

Please see response to question 2 above – information not held.
