School attendance pupil B codes

In respect of every mainstream school and every local authority-maintained establishment providing alternative provision education in your local education authority (pupil referral units, alternative provision academies and alternative provision free schools) for the last five academic years (2018/19, 2017/18, 2016/17, 2015/16, 2014/15): the number of pupils with 40 or more attendance ‘B’ codes (i.e. those pupils recorded on the school’s attendance register as attending an off-site educational activity); and * the number of pupils with more than 95 attendance ‘B’ codes.

We hold this information for 335 schools, only a small number of these schools provide an alternative education provision and Academies and free schools are not obliged to share information with Devon County Council. The 335 does not include special schools, independent schools, free schools, further education colleges or secure units.

B is an attendance code. Some students included above may have this code recorded for just one session ( half a day) per week or single event. Formal definition is “this code should be used when pupils are present at an off-site educational activity that has been approved by the school where they take part in an activity off of the school site.”
