Obesity – children treated and/or taken into care

 I would like to know the total number of children being treated for obesity in Devon for the past five years? Please could I have the statistic broken down into district first (i.e. there are XX amount of children being treated for obesity in Devon in 2017, XXX are in East Devon and XXX amount are in North Devon. Then please could I have the numbers broken down further into areas/towns/villages and years for North and East Devon.
(ie there were XXX amount of children in East Devon being treated in 2017 ‘ XXX were in Sidmouth, XXX were in Honiton etc) I would also like to know how many children there were in Devon in the past five years.
(i.e.there were XXX children in Devon in 2017, XXX children in 2016)
Devon County Council do not hold information relating to the treatment of children for obesity as that is the responsibility of the NHS. Please contact local Clinical Commissioning Groups.

Devon County Council participates in the National Child Measurement Programme(NCMP) which  measures children’s height and weight and calculates their Body Mass Index, which is shared with parent/carers.  It is not a treatment programme.Information about healthy lifestyles is provided with the results letter and parents may discuss any concerns with their GP or school nurse.

The NCMP Local Authority Profile online data tool for child obesity for England has been updated. This annual update adds data for the academic year 2016 to 2017 at local authority (LA) level. It also includes a new ‘severe obesity’ indicator, not reported on separately before. The NCMP tool displays prevalence of obesity, overweight, healthy weight and underweight at local, regional and national level over time, for children in Reception (aged 4 to 5 years) and Year 6 (aged 10 to 11 years). Users can compare LA data by region or between ‘CIPFA nearest neighbours’ (LAs with similar characteristics).

Please could I have these broken down into districts first and then into areas/towns/villages and years for just North and East Devon.

I would like to know how many children have been taken into care because they are obese in the last five years in Devon please?

Children may be taken into care for a single reason or for multiple reasons. Obesity as a factor is not recorded separately and cannot be reported on separately. Free text parts of hundreds of cases would have to be examined manually to identify if obesity was a factor in taking a child in care and even if each one only took ten minutes the time necessary would be in excess of eighteen hours and therefore we are exempting disclosure under Section 12 of the Freedom of information Act 2000 – Cost of Compliance.
