Number of physical assaults on adults in school

Section 1

The data in section 1 is based on centrally reported incidents for all Primary and Secondary schools that currently have Maintained status. (It does not include schools that would have been maintained during the periods required but that are now academies). The data included incidents where the “assault” may have been accidental.

Specific Incident categories used were: –

Violence – control and restraint

Violence – Physical assault (intentional) by student

Violence – Physical assault (intentional) by client

Violence – Physical assault (unintentional)

The affected person selected was described by the school as: –

Agency worker

Volunteer

A search in the description for the words ‘knife’ and ‘knives’ was undertaken. Incidents using terms for other bladed implements would not be included.
