Looked After Children Statistics

1. Please provide the number of looked after children under 16 in the care of your authority who were in supported/semi-supported accommodation placements on 31 March 2019.

All figures for 2018/19, including figures for 31 March 2019, are due to be published on the Department for Education (DfE) website in the near future.  We therefore wish to apply Section 22 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 – ‘Information intended for future publication’ to the figures for this year.  Once published, the data will be available here – https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/statistics-looked-after-children.

The DfE recently extended the deadline for all LAs in England for their statutory return related to looked after children due to issues with DfE’s new system provider, so this publication is likely to be delayed and we are still working on verifying information for 2018/19 so it is unlikely that the data will be available until after 2nd August 2019.  Should you wish to re-submit your request to the Council after this date, we would be happy to provide the information to you direct.

2. Please could you tell us how many children aged 16 and 17 who were in the care of local authorities other than your own (ie “out of area placements”) and who are living in supported/semi supported accommodation located within your authority’s boundaries on 31 March 2019.

Information not held by Devon County Council.  This would be held by the allocating authority.

3. Please give the number of how many of the looked after children identified in the answer to Q2 come from which other local authority area – giving a number of children per other local authority area that they are from.

Information not held by Devon County Council.  This would be held by the allocating authority.

 4. Please give the number of 16 and 17 year olds in the care of your local authority who were in supported/semi-supported accommodation placements outside your local authority’s boundaries on 31 March 2019.
