Gipsy and Traveller Camp Costs

“I am requesting the following information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000:

1. In the calendar year of 2018 how much has the council spent cleaning up council owned land following the eviction of an illegal traveller camp – please may this be divided by site address, how long each site was occupied for and the cost site per site.

Unauthorised encampments are not illegal in themselves and arise from homelessness as well as from travelling communities.  The Council does not distinguish between clean-up costs arising from these different causes. Most unauthorised encampments occur on parts of the highway, including verges and lay-bys. Clean-up costs at these locations normally fall to District and Unitary councils in Devon.

In calendar year 2018, Devon County Council paid £19,650 for clean-up at Kingsway, Langage Industrial Estate. Duration of occupation is provided within Legal Costs and duration
