Caravan and Boat Fridges and Recycling Centres

Information on why council recycling centres will not accept caravan/boat fridges which are as I understand it fundamentally no different hazard wise from ordinary domestic fridges.

Devon County Council (DCC) only has a legal duty to accept household waste from household premises. DCC does not accept waste vehicles, vehicle parts, boats, caravans, trailers, and this includes items from within such vehicles such as fridges/freezers from caravans/motorhomes/boats.

Caravan fridges typically have a different composition from domestic units (typically they are ammonia based), which makes them more costly and difficult to recycle.

Holders of any waste vehicles, vehicle parts, boats, caravans, trailers and fridges/freezers from caravans/motorhomes/boats will need to make private/commercial arrangements for their disposal/recycling.
