Occupational therapy planned reviews (2018-2019)

Please supply the following information about your Occupational Therapy Assessments:

1. Of adults receiving long term care and support, how many planned reviews have been completed in the last 12 months by the Council?

In Devon County Council, (DCC)  planned reviews consider the wider social care needs of clients through completion of a Your Care Act Assessment. Occupational Therapists (OTs) generally work as part of the Integrated Community Teams and therefore do not carry out their own planned reviews specifically relating to client OT needs.  We therefore do not hold this information.

As such it is not possible to provide an answer specifically about Occupational Therapists planned reviews due to the way reviews are recorded.

2. Of adults receiving long term care and support, what percentage received a planned review within the timescales set out and agreed by the Council?

For reasons detailed in our response to question 1 above, we do not hold this information.

3. Of adults in receipt of equipment and / or adaptations, how many of these received a planned review?

Equipment and minor adaptations are delivered via our integrated community equipment service which has nearly 4,000 staff members who are prescribers, the significant majority of whom are NHS employees.

Within DCC adult services, only those individuals requiring on-going social care services/support will have a review which may or may not be completed by an OT (as detailed in our response to question 1 above). Any such social care review where complex equipment is in place (such as hoists or complex transfer aids) includes questions to identify if there has been any change in need/condition or level of function i.e. any changes that will affect the safe and effective use of the equipment. Any such changes identified will trigger an OT specific reassessment of the suitability of the equipment item.

4. What percentage of planned reviews are done face to face?

Please see our responses to questions 1 and 2 above.

5. What percentage of planned reviews are done over the telephone or via another method?

Please see our responses to questions 1 and 2 above.

6. What is the average waiting time for Service Users of Adult Social Care from request for Occupational Therapy Assessment to the assessment being carried out?

From the current waiting list we have established that the average waiting time is 22 days.

7. What is the longest waiting time for Service Users of Adult Social Care from request for Occupational Therapy Assessment to the assessment being carried out?

Using the list detailed in Q6 we have established that the longest waiting time is 132 days.

8. Do you use any third parties to deliver Occupational Therapy assessments (e.g. locums, private sector organisations or self-employed Occupational Therapists)?

We occasionally use Locum OTs generally to cover long term sickness or maternity leave. We do not commission any private sector organisations.

9. If so, please give the name of the organisation(s) and the number of assessments completed by each during the period 1.1.2018 to 1.1.2019

Following our response to question 8 above, this question is no longer applicable

10. Do you have an official contract with any of the above organisations and if so, when is this due to end?

Following our response to question 8 above, this question is no longer applicable

11. Can you please provide contact details for the current Head of Adult Services and Review/Reassessment Team Manager.

DCC does not have a specific review team for Occupational Therapy. The Occupational Therapist in DCC Adults are divided between our first point of contact (3 OT Teams in Care Direct Plus – each with a Team Manager who is an OT – generally completing short term work) and our Integrated Community Teams (Health and Social Care) where they complete the full care management role including long term care/support and reviews.
