Combating Digital Poverty

Please break down by financial year

How much money/budget has Devon County Council (DCC) spent on devices, digital skills training or anything else across each of the last three financial years? (or as far back as you can provide)

DCC does not hold this information by financial year, but we can tell you in 2019 – 2020 we spent £225,000 and in January – September 2022 we spent £585,000. To clarify, this money came from a government fund, not DCC funds, but we are the accountable body for it.

How many devices have been donated to families, schools, or charities in need?

None. We have purchased loan devices through both project funds mentioned in the answer above.

Additionally, 209 devices that were not funded by DCC, but we supported the bids and allocated the devices.

Please also include a breakdown of each device type (i.e. laptop, mobile phone, tablet, etc.) and associated costs

Out of the 209 devices mentioned above there were 18 generic tablets and 191 iPads. There were no associated costs.

Please provide a list of any specific policies, activities or consultations introduced to tackle digital poverty
