Ofsted improvements post 2021

Devon County Council is currently rated ‘Inadequate’ by Ofsted. Below is a list of improvements Ofsted set out to you when they visited in July 2021.

Please can you confirm how the service is working to improve the overall rating and specifically the below points.

* Making sure that decisions taken by the multi-agency safeguarding hub (MASH) are acted on.
* Professional curiosity and the quality of assessments.
* How effectively plans drive progress for children.
* The quality of recorded management oversight and critical challenge.

Devon County Council is absolutely committed to improving services, so that vulnerable children and families will receive a consistently good level of support and protection when they require help. There is an Improvement plan which incorporates all of the Ofsted findings and there is also a specific Improvement plan dedicated to the Multi-agency safeguarding hub and related services.

Devon’s improvement journey is still at an early stage, but there is work being undertaken to support front-line practice, to improve the quality of assessments, the effectiveness of plans in driving progress and the quality of management oversight and critical challenge. This work is overseen by an independent advisor appointed by the Department for Education, and a multi-agency panel.
