Support for People with Auditory Processing Disorder (APD)

1. Do you have a policy supporting APD? If so, could you please refer us to it on your website, or send us a copy.

No

2. Do you have a Sensory Support team, Hearing Impaired/HI team or Teacher of the Deaf, or equivalent?

Yes

3. If so, do they follow the National Sensory Impairment Partnership (NatSIP) guidelines regarding the support of APD within the school setting?

APD is not mentioned in the 2017 or 2019 (most recent) NATSiP eligibility framework. We do not visit children or young persons with APD unless the need is having a significant impact on access to the curriculum

4. When recommendations are made by a professional for a learner with APD, do you provide and support any recommended equipment, e.g. Frequency Moderation (FM) systems?

This will depend on whether or not the child or young person has an education health and care plan and what is stipulated as part of the necessary provision

5. Would the Local Authority expect the educational setting to provide and support FM systems? If so, how?

We would be expecting schools to use their Early First Year (E1) and Early Second Year (E2) to fund equipment/specialist support as part of their reasonable adjustments

6. Would you like to consider adding APD Support UK to your local offer?

This question falls outside the scope of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, as it does not relate to information Devon County Council hold.

In order to meet our duty under S16 of the act, we advise you contact Gill Loman from the SEN Team on 01392 383000
