Food Procurement

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, please could you provide the following for the most recent completed financial year for which the information is available:

1.     The total amount spent by your Council on the purchase of food and food products.

£0.

Devon County Council does not directly purchase food or food products. The Council does incur some expenditure on catering services, for example catering for meetings and functions, but this is expenditure on the provision of catering services rather than the direct purchase of food or food products.

Catering at a small number of the Council’s corporate sites is provided by SW Norse. Purchases made by employees through on-site cafés and vending facilities are not expenditure by the Council. School catering operates through direct commercial arrangements between the relevant schools and the catering provider, rather than food being purchased by Devon County Council.

School catering is subject to direct commercial arrangements between the relevant schools and SW Norse.

2.     Of this total, how much was paid to businesses or suppliers based in your local authority area/district.

£0, on the basis of the response to question 1.

3.     If the Council records whether food or food products were produced in your local authority area/district, please also provide the total amount spent on products produced in this local authority area/district.

£0. Devon County Council does not directly purchase food or food products and therefore has no expenditure falling within question 1 on food or food products produced within the local authority area.

Please provide information in relation to food purchased for all Council services, including schools, adult social care and other directly provided services.

School catering is provided via direct commercial relationships between each school and Norse.
