With regards to Grounds Maintenance and Corporate Trees contract:
Budgets are delegated and choices to use or not use pesticides are left to individual premises. The Council seeks to minimise the use of pesticides wherever practicable but has not imposed a blanket ban. There are non-pesticide alternatives available for all activities under these two contracts.
Devon County Council seeks to minimise the use of pesticides, and non–pesticide alternatives are available for all activities on these two contracts. These include strimming edges, hand weeding, hand digging, stump grinding, and weed brushing hard surfaces.
Devon County Council has pledged to minimise the use of pesticides. We recently trialled almost total absence of herbicide use at the County Hall site (the only exception being to treat a small area of Japanese Knotweed).
