Tiverton – Chapter 8 Alleyway Closure

Did Devon County Council (DCC) or any of its representatives authorise Tiverton Foxhounds ( The Hunt ) or its supporters to remove the Chapter 8 Alleyway closure adjacent to Edinburgh Woollen Mill, ( between market carpark and Tiverton Fore Street in Tiverton which is closed due to a collapsing ceiling with potential risk to life on the morning of Boxing Day the 26th Dec 2024.

The footpath was closed in November 2024 by the County Council for safety reasons and the closure removed soon after completion of remedial works by the property management company on 24th November. The Council has no record of a closure being in place on 26th December 2024.

Was this removal done by a Chapter 8 qualified person.

Yes by the Council’s contractors after the 24th November.

If so why was it authorised? How was it justified when a fresh collapse happened that morning?.

The management company advised that remedials works had been completed by the 24th November.
The Council was advised of a further issue requiring closure of the footpath on 30 December 2024

Why was the closure not immediatly replace after the Hunt and its supporters had finished their event in the Town.

The removal of the closure was not related to the Hunt’s event.

Did DCC authorise any change of use for Market carpark for the morning of Boxing Day?

No, as the Market Car Park is not the responsibility of the County Council
