Veterans and social housing

Please provide information regarding veterans and social housing in your local authority:

1. The number of veterans that were on a social housing waiting list in your local authority, in each month since the start of the financial year 2018/19.

2. The average length of time spent by a veteran on a social housing waiting list in your local authority, since the start of the financial year 2018/19.

3. The longest time a veteran has spent on a social housing waiting list in your local authority since the start of the financial year 2018/19.

4. The number of complaints made by veterans in social housing about their social housing provision to your local authority, in each month since the start of the financial year 2018/19.

In response to questions 1 – 4, Devon County Council  is not responsible for housing and therefore does not hold this information.Housing is the responsibility of District and Unitary councils in Devon; please contact them directly using the information on the links provided.

5. The number of veterans that contacted your local authority asking for financial support of any kind in each month since the start of the financial year 2018/19.

Devon County Council believes that compliance with this request would exceed the appropriate cost limit under Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 which is £450 or 18 hours of officer time.  To locate and extract or retrieve the requested information would require the manual review of over 15,000 adult client records to identify a veteran status and then to identify, within each record, if financial support has been requested since 2018/19.  We anticipate that each review would take 3 minutes, which in total, would equate to 750 hours of officer time and therefore, this information is withheld.  Under the Act, there is a duty to provide advice and assistance about how a request can be refined to fit within the appropriate limit. Unfortunately, due to the way our data is held this is not possible for this request.
