As of 1st September 2024 there are approximately 105,470 children of compulsory school age living in Devon. This is based on NHS Registrations data.

Devon has 105,606 state funded school places. This is based on the Published Admission Number or the Admission limit of a school and the registered number of planned places at Devon special schools.

Compliance with this request would exceed the appropriate cost limit under Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 which is £450 or 18 hours of officer time. To calculate the average amount of days it takes from the parental request until the child is enrolled in a school, we would have to check all the applications, work out how many days it took from application to when they were placed on roll and then finding an average. In 2021 alone, there are over 5800 entries so at a minute at a time that is 5800 minutes and 96 hours.

Under the Act, there is a duty to provide advice and assistance as to how a request can be refined to fit within the appropriate limit. Unfortunately, due to  the way the data is held, this is not possible for this request.
