Marriage Objections

Please supply the following information under the Freedom of Information Act for each of the years (financial or calendar, whichever is available) from 2017-2023, separating the answers by year:

1. The number of complaints you received in each of the above years, from a friend or family member, regarding a marriage that they believe should not have taken place / complaints about someone marrying a person who lacked capacity to consent.

Devon County Council do not hold any complaints relating to these matters for this time period.

2. The number of objections or caveats against a marriage for each of the above years, to prevent a marriage proceeding.

Registration Officers and anyone who acts on their behalf in carrying out statutory registration duties are outside the provisions of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act 2000. Superintendent Registrars and registrars are not a public authority as defined in the Act and, therefore, are not subject to its provisions. Data held by them is thus not subject to disclosure under the FOI Act.
