Bus passes

Please can you provide the following information for the financial year 2022-2023.

1. How many concessionary bus passes were issued?

Devon County Council issued 66,760 bus passes, of which 12,811 were new applications and the remaining 53,949 were renewals or replacements for lost or damaged passes.

2. How many disabled bus passes were issued?

As of the 1st April 2023, we have 8,977 disabled bus passes.

3. How much was spent on all concessionary bus pass travel?

£7,556,893.01.

4. How much was spent on disabled bus pass travel?

Devon County Council believes compliance with this request would exceed the appropriate cost limit under Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 which is £450 or 18 hours of officer time.  We estimate that it would take 3 months to work out this information for each one of the 8,977 disabled bus passes.

5. How many bus trips were made by concessionary bus pass holders?

5,246,060.

6. How many bus trips were made by disabled bus pass holders?

7. How many bus trips were made by disabled bus pass holders before 9:30am?

8. How many bus trips were made by disabled bus pass holders after 11pm?

9. Do you offer a young person’s bus pass? And if you do, what are the benefits of the young person’s bus pass?

Devon County Council do not offer a young persons bus pass.

10. Does the disabled bus pass include free travel for a travelling companion?

A separate companion concession is available. It does not come as standard with a disabled bus pass.

11. How much additional cost would there be if you lifted the time restrictions and provided free bus travel at all times for all disabled bus pass holders per financial year?

Devon County Council cannot provide this figure as by changing the parameters of the pass, you would most likely generate additional trips as a result, for example, people who have a disabled pass and are working/studying.
