Magdalen Road Project

Can you please supply me with the Gross Cost of the Magdalen Road Project, including all relevant related matters;
i.e. in no particular order and not inclusive – as ALL costs need to be included but including;
– Consultation meetings, printing, communications, etc
– signage & administration to close the road
– alternative route planning and signage
– detailed design and approval costs
– All construction works, including, temporary traffic lights, signs and controls, excavations, block paving, new tarmac, kerb relocation, etc, etc.
– Cost of designing, purchasing and installing new street lighting for the road
– preparation, construction, planting and positioning of the plant holders installed down the road (including an estimate of annual running costs)
– expected warranty costs due to failures of water installations and building damage, etc
– design, manufacturing and installation of all permanent signage relating the project

Devon County Council does not hold costs broken down in the categories specified in the request. However, the approximate costs (as of the end of July 2023) are broken down below:

Notes:

  • The ‘Temporary Scheme’ refers to the scheme introduced on Magdalen Road in June 2020, which temporarily widened the northern footway (using barriers), restricted vehicular traffic to one-way (westbound) and introduced a contra-flow (eastbound) cycle lane.
  • The ‘Permanent Scheme’ refers to the scheme constructed between January and May 2023, which physically widened the northern footway, permanently restricted vehicular traffic to one-way (westbound) with a contra-flow (eastbound) cycle lane, and introduced public realm enhancements.
  • All costs exclude Value Added Tax.
