Planning

The planning system regulates the way in which land is used by:
- producing Local Plans which set out the type and location of developments that will be permitted in an area
- operating a Development Management system to process planning applications, and to ensure that proposed developments meet the requirements of the local and strategic plans.
PLANNING APPLICATIONS:
District Councils handle all Planning Applications other than those listed below under County Councils. For example, if you wish to make a planning application for a residential or commercial development, you should contact your local District Council by following the link below:
Unitary Councils and National Park Authorities handle all Planning Applications within the areas of Plymouth City Council, Torbay Council, Dartmoor National Park and Exmoor National Park. To contact your Unitary Council or National Park, please follow the relevant link below:
County Councils handle all Planning Applications for minerals related or waste management development, together with all planning applications for the County Council's own development, for example schools and libraries (these are often referred to as 'Reg. 3' developments). If you wish to submit a planning application to Devon County Council, please follow the link below:
