A new bridge over the A379 is being delivered for pedestrians and cyclists. Located close to the school and community facilities, the bridge will provide a dedicated crossing of the road. At school start and finish times, it is expected that lots of people will be crossing the road, so the bridge is being delivered to provide a safe crossing point close to the school. Crossings of the road in other locations will be included in the proposed junctions.
The county council has undertaken work to inform the design of the bridge. An application was submitted to Devon County Council, which has subsequently been approved. To view the design of the bridge, please see the plan of the works.
Following the receipt of planning permission and a tender process, GRAHAM were appointed as the contractor and works started on site. The bridge was lifted into place on 30th May 2023. A time-lapse of the bridge lift can be viewed here. Works are due to be completed in Summer 2023.
