Wraparound childcare funding

In the Spring 2023 budget, the previous government announced a £289 million investment over two academic years for a national wraparound programme. This programme aims to support families with primary-aged children who need access to paid wraparound childcare from 8am to 6pm during term time.

Parents were informed to expect an expansion in the availability of wraparound childcare from Autumn 2024, enabling them to access employment or training and improve labour market participation.

Devon County Council has been awarded £3.5 million for the development of wraparound childcare until 2026.

However, since the previous government’s announcement, the new government has promised to introduce free breakfast clubs in all primary schools in England. Due to the additional costs associated with this, there’s currently some uncertainty around the continuation of the National Wraparound Funding programme beyond 31 March 2025.

Schools and providers that have planned and set up wraparound care by this date will be funded to deliver their provision for at least one year.

We encourage schools and providers wanting to develop wraparound provision with financial support to access the funding as soon as possible.

The application process is online and designed to be straightforward. Applications are reviewed weekly to ensure a quick response, and ongoing support is provided throughout the process.
