Secondary school admissions process for September 2026

Information from the school admissions team on the admissions process for September 2026.

I am writing to inform you that the admissions portal is now open for families with children in Year 6 to submit their applications for secondary school places.

As you may be aware, we no longer send direct postal notifications to families. However, we have issued emails and text messages to many families who pre-registered their details with us, reminding them to apply.

Families can apply online by visiting: www.devon.gov.uk/admissionsonline. The deadline for applications is 31st October 2025. Please note that applications submitted after this date may be considered late and will only be processed after all on-time applications. If a preferred school is oversubscribed, late applicants may be offered a place at a school further from home. It is therefore essential that families apply before the deadline.

The online system cannot be used to apply for specialist or independent schools. Children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) may use the portal to apply for a place at a mainstream state-funded school, but must also inform the 0–25 team if they have additional preferences for independent or specialist settings. These families will be contacted directly by the 0–25 team with information about the application process.

Attached is a copy of the letter sent to families who pre-registered for updates. You are welcome to share this information with your Year 6 families via newsletters, website updates, or other communication platforms. It may also be helpful for supporting families who may find the application process challenging.

Please note that the admissions team no longer collates information about secondary school open evenings. Families should visit individual school websites for the most up-to-date details.
