Mileage rate increase
Updated mileage rate – effective from 6 April 2026
Changes apply to all schools who have adopted the DCC Business Travel plan.
As of 6 April 2026, the DCC mileage allowance increased from 45p per mile to 55p per mile (for the first 10,000 miles). More information can be found on the HMRC website.
If your school payroll is provided by DCC, changes will be applied automatically to any mileage claims already submitted for journeys taken between 6 April and June 2026, you do not need to take any action – difference will be automatically added to individual pay in July 2026.
If you have staff under TUPE terms, please check their terms and conditions to confirm which mileage allowance applies, as this may differ.
