Accessibility statement

How Devon County Council websites are organised

The Devon County Council ‘website’ is made up of many separate websites and services, covering different areas of our work. Each website has its own accessibility statement, to ensure we can properly describe the accessibility for each site or service.

This accessibility statement covers the Devon Registration Service website at www.devon.gov.uk/registration-service and does not cover the wider family of Devon County Council websites.

Introduction

This website is run by Devon County Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser settings
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen using browser settings
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

The My Computer My Way guide from AbilityNet is a step-by-step guide to help you make your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Compliance

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Many of our older PDFs and Word documents do not meet accessibility standards – for example, they may not be structured so they’re accessible to a screen reader.

We plan to either fix these or replace them with accessible HTML pages as soon as possible. We will aim to meet accessibility standards with any new PDFs or Word documents we publish.

Principle 1: Perceivable

Guideline 1.4 Distinguishable (Accessibility problem 1.4.10)

Some pages scroll in two dimensions on small screens making it hard to read the content having to scroll left to right. Intention to fix 11/2023.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
