Celebratory ceremonies

Commitment ceremonies

Each commitment ceremony is unique and designed around you. There is the opportunity for you and your partner to choose any readings, promises and commitments to each other; you may wish to sign a certificate and exchange rings or presents.

A commitment ceremony provides the opportunity for a couple who are unable or do not wish to formally marry to celebrate and acknowledge their partnership. This has no legal status.

A commemorative certificate will be provided to record the ceremony.

If you would like to plan a commitment ceremony, please contact the Ceremonies Team on 0345 155 1002.

Most celebration ceremonies are arranged between six and eight weeks in advance of the date and can take place at one of our approved venues (contact the venue direct for more information).

Renewal of marriage vows

The renewal of marriage vows gives you, a married couple, the opportunity to celebrate your married life together.

Each ceremony is unique and designed around you. There is the opportunity for you and your partner to choose any readings, renew marriage vows, sign a certificate, rededicate your rings or give new rings and compose closing words.

A commemorative certificate will be provided to record the ceremony.

If you would like to organise a renewal of marriage vows ceremony, please contact the Ceremonies Team on 0345 155 1002.

This has no legal status and the couple will need to provide their original marriage certificate before the ceremony may be arranged.

Naming ceremonies

A naming ceremony is a celebration of the arrival of a new child into your family, although it can be designed for children up to the age of 18 years old.

As parents, you may make promises and declarations to your child in front of family and friends. At the same time, your family and friends may also make promises to the child, offering to support them throughout their lives.

You may choose to add additional elements into the ceremony but most naming ceremonies will include an introduction and welcome by the celebrant, readings, naming of the child (or children) parents’ promises, pledges by supporting adults and closing words.

A commemorative certificate will be provided to record the event.

The ceremony can take place at any of our approved venues (contact the venue direct for more information).

This ceremony has no legal status and you will need to produce the birth certificate for your child before the ceremony may be arranged.
