Walk A Mile With A Smile in support of Unpaid Carers

Posted on:

Devon Carers, a service providing support to carers, would like people to help raise awareness of caring by walking A Mile With A Smile to highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout Devon.

A Mile With A Smile was started by Devon Carers during Carers Week 2020 and its popularity has increased over the last couple of years.

This week, (commencing Monday 6 June), is Carers Week, and the theme this year is ‘Making caring visible, valued and supported.’

Andy Hood, Head of Devon Carers, said

“We would love as many people as possible to walk a mile, by yourself or with family and friends, to help us raise awareness of the amazing contribution unpaid carers make. You may know of someone who is looking after a family member, friend or neighbour – tell them about our service because we are here to support them throughout their caring journey.

“Don’t forget to take a photo of you walking with a smile, send it to us at online@devoncarers.org.uk and we will add it to our website. Our goal is to collectively walk the 350 mile perimeter of Devon!”

In addition, as part of Carers Week, Devon Carers is working collaboratively with both Plymouth and Torbay carers services to host a range of in-person and online workshops and activities, please visit Carers Week – Devon Carers for the full diary of events.
