Devon families with children aged 0–5 years can now access free premium support through a new app on their mobile device, following investment by Devon County Council.
The new EasyPeasy app is to support local families and parents in the early stages of their child’s development and is part of the council’s commitment to help give children the best start in life.
It brings together the best ideas, advice, and inspiration from a range of sources including parents and experts, to transform everyday parenting into playful learning activities.
Parents can access thousands of simple, fun, and educational parenting tips and activities, tailored to their child’s age and development stage, designed to use everyday materials that families already have access to at home.
The app includes information, activities, and tips on topics including:
- bedtime
- nutrition
- SEND
- speech and language
- mindfulness
It supports communication and language development, parent-child interaction, learning through play and school readiness, and helping families build positive everyday experiences together.
The EasyPeasy app also allows parents and carers to create and share their own parenting tips and experiences, building peer-to-peer support systems in local communities. Imminently there will also be a feature signposting families to activities and events taking place in their local area.
Cabinet Member, Councillor Cheryl Cottle-Hunkin, has responsibility for public health in Devon. She said:
“We know the early years are so crucial for children’s development and future learning. EasyPeasy gives parents and carers access to simple, evidence-informed ideas they can use every day to support their child’s development, confidence, and readiness for school. “As a parent of two young children myself, I understand how challenging those first few years can be, and often what families need most is reassurance and practical support. The tips and activities available through EasyPeasy can really help build not only children’s confidence and wellbeing, but also parents’ confidence in supporting their child’s learning and development. “I would encourage all families in Devon with children aged 0-5 years to register and make the most of this fantastic service which is now available for free.
