A Multicultural Counselling Service Social Enterprise based in Devon

Aims of the Social Enterprise:

To provide an evidence-based, Holistic Counselling Service for Black and Minority Ethnic Communities across Devon.

Objectives:

  • to provide psychotherapeutic services (mainly short-term, approx. 8    sessions), suited to BME communities
  • to work alongside community networks so as to ensure cultural sensitivity and accessibility
  • to link seamlessly with statutory services, including NHS and GPs so as to facilitate easy referral both ways
  • to sign-post to other support agencies so as to ensure continuation of care
  • to continue to develop the service so as to meet BME community needs and facilitate access to other services and resources where these are available
  • to research and collect evidence of the mental health needs of various BME communities in Devon
  • to monitor and evaluate the service so that it remains relevant and responsive to need and operates effectively and efficiently

We normally see clients within one week of referral, depending on availability.  The service is free to clients and we are working hard to maintain a level of funding to continue to deliver the service free to clients.

We are organisational members of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by its code of ethics.  Therapists are either accredited, on the BACP register of therapists, or working towards registration and accreditation.

Ubuntu has been managing the Exeter Communities Together project since 2019.  This is a partnership of grass roots community organisations, offering a wide range of cultural activities, including a Growing Group on Tuesdays, 10am to 1pm.
