We deliver interpretation and translation services for public service providers, groups, and individuals. We provide services in over 100 languages with a database of over 300 local freelance interpreters and translators.
The county’s only locally based professional translation and interpretation service, Multilingua Devon was founded in 2007 in order to meet the language needs of local BAME communities and support equality of access to public services. Initially supported by Devon County Council, we are now financially self-sufficient, but we remain a not-for-profit business. We support other charitable organisations and have a close relationship with our interpreters; we meet them, interview them in-person, offer training, and hold regular social get-togethers. The biggest difference between us and many larger, national companies is that we are local; we know the area and understand the needs of the communities well.
Our interpreters are trained and have DBS checks. 99% are native speakers with a BA or higher university degree from their own country. We try to match the right interpreter to each job.
Multilingua provides:
- trained local interpreters in over 85 languages
- prompt responses to all enquiries and a speedy service
- specialist interpreting e.g. mental health, medical, child protection, counselling, domestic violence, housing, education, legal topics
- written translation on request in any language (email the document to get a quote)
- in-house training and workshops
- training for organisations on ‘Working with Interpreters’ and ‘Cultural Advocacy’.
