Alternative provision 14-16

In Devon, a number of further education colleges offer alternative provision for 14 and 15-year-old home educated learners who wish to attend college on a part-time basis. This is designed to supplement what is already being provided at home.

As the provision is part-time, learners remain registered as home educated and parents are responsible for:

    • arranging and funding transport to and from college
    • ensuring regular attendance by the young person
    • funding or providing books, equipment or other materials required by the course
    • assuring themselves of safeguarding arrangements and duty of care during course attendance

The Cornwall College Group – including Duchy College, Stoke Climsland and Bicton College

The Elective Home Education Infill programme gives year 11 students the chance to gain a vocational qualification alongside 16-18 learners. This approach allows the college group to offer a wider choice of subjects to meet the individual needs of EHE learners. Running across all 16-18 campuses, students will have full access to college facilities and complete the year with an industry standard qualification at either Level 1 or Level 2 depending on interview and subject.
EHE learners will be supported with a personal tutor, regular meetings with the Student Experience Team and careers education advice and guidance.
Applications can be made at any time throughout year 10 with courses starting in September of year 11. All applicants will be considered on an individual basis with a supportive interview and transition process that is bespoke to each learner.
