Whether a child or young person is starting school for the first time, moving from primary to secondary school, changing school, or progressing to college or further education, it can be unsettling. The process is usually referred to as transitioning, or making a transition.

Transitioning from one educational setting to another can be challenging for all children and young people, but particularly so for those with SEND, as it may be more difficult to get to know a new place with new people.

Children and young people with SEND support already in place will also need their support provision to be moved across too.
