Supporting families from the very start in Devon
Best Start Family Hubs are about joining things up around families, making support easier to find, easier to access, and more responsive to what children and parents need from the very start.
They offer a welcoming, non-judgmental way for families with children and young people aged 0–19, and up to 25 for those with special educational needs and disabilities or care experienced, to access advice, support and activities.
In Devon, we have moved away from relying only on buildings and instead focus on a community‑based approach. This means families can get support in places that work best for them, including Best Start Family Hub buildings, schools, libraries, GP surgeries and online.
This flexible model helps us reach families across our market and coastal towns, and rural communities, reflecting Devon’s geography and local needs and also strengthen and build community capacity.
Our Best Start Family Hubs work closely with health, education, children’s services and voluntary organisations to provide joined‑up support. We focus on early help by listening to families, identifying needs early, and working together to prevent problems from escalating.
Families can contact us in different ways, including in person, online or through outreach in their community, ensuring support is accessible, inclusive and available when and where families need it most.
