Sidmouth residents ‘thanked’ after roadworks completed

Posted on:

Our Cabinet Member for Highways, Stuart Hughes, has thanked Sidmouth’s residents for their patience throughout the ‘challenging’ A375 Vicarage Road scheme.

Between January 10 and this week there have been regular road closures to allow vital drainage work to be carried out.

The work, which took place along Temple Street, Vicarage Road, High Street and Fore Street, also included extensive resurfacing.

The scheme was planned to finish on Thursday March 31 – but the work was completed early. As of yesterday, Monday 28 March, the road closures were lifted in the afternoon. There will be minor Stop / Go traffic management in place until Wednesday March 30.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highway Management and the local member for Sidmouth Sidford said:

“I’m glad to say we are able to lift the road closures slightly earlier than expected despite what has been a challenging scheme. We knew beforehand that some of the underground drainage pipes needed replacing but the true extent was only fully realised after excavation work had started. I want to thank the works crews who have acted professionally and efficiently throughout, but also Sidmouth’s residents. I understand how frustrating and inconvenient works like these can be, but despite this the works teams have said how supportive, courteous and complimentary residents have been throughout and they would also like to offer their thanks for the support and patience of Sidmouth residents.”
